I would say go for both. Here’s the trick, Portugese is almost a mix of spanish and french. if you know spanish, you will understand about half of what is being said in portuguese. I want to start teaching my daughter some spanish and I thought it would be fun if there were something out there that was kind of focused on the family learning together!

One of the hardest things about Learning Spanish is the verb system. With all the different tenses and genders to learn, it is no wonder! I have given a few little starters here to help you master the Spanish verb system.

At this point I will define a verb as an action, or doing, word, and this would include opinion. For example, love, taste, push, pull, etc. all are verbs. In Spanish, the verbs are classed in 3 categories: ir verbs, ar verbs, and er verbs, and from there each can be sub-divided into regular verbs, and irregular verbs. In English the verb never changes to indicate who is performing the action, in Spanish this is not true. The er, ar, and ir, will change the who! Take for example:

In the phrases I/We/You like dogs, the verb form like never changes, not one letter. In Spanish, and others the verb changes because of the who. The I, you, and we becoming unnecessary and often omitted.

Now on to the three basic types of verbs, the ir, the ar, and the er. I’ll start with the regular verbs, as they are easier to catch on to. Of the three types, the ar verbs are most common, I will also use this as a starting point. We will use the word TOMAR, or to drink, there are other meanings, but this applies. “I drink beer” is common enough so:

In Spanish you would drop the ar at the end, then add an o. The statement would become ” tomo cerveza “. You could add the Yo ( I in Spanish), but this is not needed because of the verb indication.

To say you instead, add as instead to get ” tomas cerveza “.

If you are indicating he or she, just use the a, making ” toma cerveza”. The last being in a formal situation, or when talking to someone for the first time.

When you want to say we you add amos so ” tomamos cerveza “

Referring to groups such as “you drink beer ” use ais, this would be ” tomais cerveza “

To make the statement ” they drink beer” again drop the ar and add an, this making ” toman cerveza “.

I want my 2 year old To Learn Spanish and be fluent?

I am in Stillwater, OK. Where can I find a teacher or class or something to tutor my kid into learning spanish. She is 2. I just want to get her to be fluent so she can have one up on her peers later. And I know if I wait much past when she learns to talk that it will be difficult for her to learn.
As I expected some people answered only to call me a bad father. And to those people you need to get off the internet and spend time with your kid losers.

Im from Honduras so my situation was the other way around. I speak fluent english now, I actually have a southern accent (someone told me that). Two years is the perfect age, she will be able to pick up the language and she will not have an accent when she speaks spanish. If you live in a town where there is not a big spanish population than just get her started on DVD’s and interactive games and software.
If there is a good elementary school w/ a large spanish population you could always send her there. Thats how I learned english, through immersion.
